Here's an interesting problem, would you rather:
- Be delayed by a bomb scare (which turns out to be a hoax) for over an hour, causing you to miss an important meeting or, in some cases, have your wedding delayed
or
- Be attacked by a crazed psychopath, for no reason at all, and end up in hospital needing ten stitches
the choice is yours…?
The reason I ask is these two incidents were in the media recently, the first related to an admittedly misguided individual who had forgotten to book his own wedding, his master plan to avoid being killed by his fiancée was to telephone a bomb threat. The second incident was as described, an innocent person walking in town who was attacked for no reason.
What's the connection? In the first, the case of the brain-dead groom, the culprit was sent to jail for twelve months, presumably as he deemed a severe risk to the public. The person guilty of the second offence was subject to a £150 fine – because taking her to court was not worthwhile. Given a choice of which of the two individuals I'd rather have wandering the streets I know what my decision would be.
