No fewer that three stories touching on racial discrimination of one sort or another in the media this week. Firstly Nick Griffin of the BNP wins his case whereby he was accused of reneging on his promise to remove the whites only clause from the parties membership rules. I’m not sure what the win means, whether he has actually removed the clauses or that he doesn’t have to, none of the articles seemed too clear on that.
The second was about Europeans smoking cannabis in Dutch cafes, they’ve been doing this for years but now Maastricht has decided they are too much trouble stoned so has made it illegal except for the Dutch. Personally I don’t care but it seems totally against the EU ideal, after all we’ve heard time and time again how we can’t stop EU members coming here to work. And this is in the home of one of the founding treaties of the union.
However the worst case of racial discrimination is reserved for Scotland whereby English students have to pay more for university education than any other EU member, apparently this doesn’t count as discrimination, no one seems to know why. A couple of MPs have raised this in parliament so you never know, the injustice may be corrected. It’s about time there was a vote on Scottish independence, with all the UK countries having their say. Although apparently most Scots don’t want it I reckon the majority of English do, especially when they think how English are treated both personally and politically by the Scots whose subsidies far exceed how much they contribute via taxes.
